The Superior Courts of the Maldives will enter their annual recess at the end of November, in accordance with Article 7 of the Judicature Act. The recess will begin on the last working day of November 2025 and conclude on the first working day of January 2026, the courts confirmed in separate statements.
Both the Supreme Court and the High Court stated that no hearings will be held during this period, except for urgent matters specified under Article 7(c) and 7(d) of the Act. These provisions require courts to hear cases that must be decided within constitutionally or legally mandated timeframes.
In its announcement, the Supreme Court emphasised that while hearings will be suspended, administrative functions will continue without interruption. The registry will remain open throughout the recess to accept new filings and carry out routine administrative work.

The High Court noted that it will continue to hear cases falling under Section 12B, as well as matters related to Monicon Orders, Execution of Orders and Sentences, Delay Orders, and Procedural Appeal Decisions. Additionally, the High Court stated that verdict hearings will still be conducted during the recess.
The Civil Court, in a separate notice, announced that its recess will commence on 18 December and run until the end of the month.
The annual recess is a standard feature of the judicial calendar, intended to align with statutory requirements while enabling the courts to continue essential operations behind the scenes.
