Police are responding to reports that a cargo vessel carrying three people is sinking near the Villimale’-Vaadhoo channel.

Authorities received a call at 16:59 regarding the vessel, named Fehila, which was reportedly sinking in the channel, an area known for rough conditions during adverse weather. The Marine Police are attending the scene, and the vessel is being secured and escorted to Gulhifalhu.
In a separate incident on Sunday, four people were injured when a speedboat travelling from Mahibadhoo in Ari Atoll struck a wave, shattering its front windshield. The three tourists involved were treated at Crossroads near Male’, while the injured crew member received treatment at ADK Hospital.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert for the central region, covering Thaa Atoll to Raa Atoll, in effect from 16:30 to 22:30 on Sunday. Winds are expected to reach 19 to 24 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph during thunderstorms. Authorities have warned of rough seas and urged vessels to take precautions and avoid non-essential travel.
