NSPA Spends MVR 12.4 Million On Disability Therapy Services Last Month

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) spent MVR 12.4 million on therapeutic services for children and people with disabilities in November 2025, according to official statistics.

A total of 359 individuals received treatment under the NSPA disability therapy programme during the month, including 252 males and 107 females. Behavioural therapy accounted for the highest share of expenditure, with MVR 3.5 million spent, continuing a pattern in which this form of therapy receives the largest allocation.

Spending on occupational therapy amounted to MVR 3.49 million, while speech therapy accounted for MVR 3.27 million. Educational therapy expenditure reached MVR 1.88 million. Smaller allocations were recorded for physiotherapy at MVR 118,400, psychotherapy at MVR 99,300, and early intervention services at MVR 9,000.

In addition to disability therapy services, the NSPA spent MVR 435,120 on therapeutic treatment for 58 individuals under its medical assistance programme.

As of November, a total of 14,938 individuals were registered in the national disability registry. This included 5,050 children under the age of 18, 7,613 individuals aged between 18 and 64, and 2,275 individuals aged 65 and above.

The registry data showed that 4,193 individuals were recorded as having physical disabilities, while 3,372 were categorised under various disabilities. Mental disabilities accounted for 1,871 registrations, while 2,059 were listed as children and individuals with mental disabilities.

The NSPA continues to provide therapeutic support while maintaining detailed records of disability demographics to inform policy development and service delivery.
