NSPA data published yesterday shows that 444 inpatient cases were supported at private hospitals last month. The largest share of expenditure was at Tree Top Hospital, where 278 cases cost MVR 4.5 million. At ADK Hospital, 166 cases were assisted, with spending exceeding MVR 3 million.
At Tree Top Hospital, MVR 1.1 million was allocated for orthopaedic treatments, MVR 871,407 for paediatric care, and MVR 820,686 for 60 maternity cases. At ADK Hospital, maternity treatments for 25 patients cost over MVR 200,000, while neurological treatments accounted for more than MVR 700,000. NSPA noted that additional diseases were also covered under the scheme last month.
Although the government-backed Aasandha health insurance fully covers treatment at public hospitals, many patients opt for private hospitals such as ADK and Tree Top. Factors influencing this choice include access to specialised services, shorter wait times, improved facilities, and continuity of care with private doctors, particularly for chronic or complex conditions.
NSPA provides financial support to patients who require urgent or specialised treatment that may not be accessible or timely at government hospitals.
