Vessels anchored at Zone A of the North Harbour have been temporarily relocated to Jetty No. 1 to facilitate development works on the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

The relocation comes as part of the second phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project, which covers the stretch from the Fish Market to the Ports area. Works under the current phase began on 8 December and are scheduled for completion within three months.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) said all vessels previously anchored or operating in Zone A of the North Harbour have been shifted to the area in front of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). The jetty is a high-traffic zone frequently used by speedboats transporting passengers to various destinations.

MPL said it will not charge any fees for vessels using Jetty No. 1 during the temporary relocation period.

The company outlined several conditions for the use of the jetty, stating that vessels must obtain prior permission from the North Harbour administration before relocating. Vessels must anchor along the quay wall in the same order they were lined up at the North Harbour.

MPL has set a 10-day limit for vessels to remain anchored at the quay wall. Vessels intending to stay beyond this period must re-register to rejoin the queue.

The guidelines aim to ensure fair access for all vessels seeking to use Jetty No. 1. MPL also reminded operators using Zones B and C of the North Harbour to continue following existing harbour protocols and thanked users for their cooperation during the development period.
