The Government of the Maldives strongly condemned the demolition of buildings belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem.
Authorities said the demolitions violate international law, undermine the work of the United Nations and humanitarian agencies, and worsen the already severe humanitarian situation faced by the Palestinian people. The actions also contravene rulings of the International Court of Justice.
The Maldives reaffirmed its support for UNRWA and its vital role in providing essential assistance and protection to Palestinians. The government also urged the international community to take concrete steps to hold Israel accountable for ongoing violations of international law.
