Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) presented the Maldives at FITUR 2026, the first major travel exhibition of the year, held from 21 to 25 January in Madrid, Spain.
According to VMC, FITUR is recognised as one of the world’s leading tourism fairs, attracting over 50,000 participants and serving as a key platform for industry networking, business development, and exploring trends in inbound and outbound tourism.
The Maldives was showcased alongside 25 co-exhibitors on a stand designed to reflect the destination’s evolving identity, highlighting its natural beauty, luxury resorts, romantic experiences, and rich cultural heritage, VMC said. A prominent LED screen displayed destination visuals, while interactive activities offered attendees an immersive experience of Maldivian culture and traditions.
The stand emphasised the country’s diverse travel offerings, including romantic getaways, wellness retreats, family holidays, adventure tourism, and seasonal promotions such as Summer and Winter Escapes and Sustainable Tourism, VMC said.
“To enhance visitor engagement, Visit Maldives will distribute promotional materials and host a raffle giveaway, allowing valuable market insights and a better understanding of travel trends and consumer preferences in Spain and Southern Europe,” the corporation explained.
During the exhibition, VMC plans to conduct one-on-one business meetings with tour operators, travel agents, airlines, media, and other stakeholders. The platform also enables partners to showcase their latest developments, facilitating potential collaborations and joint marketing initiatives with international operators and online travel agencies.
Visitor arrivals from Spain and Southern Europe have shown steady growth, with Spanish arrivals rising from 39,014 in 2024 to 55,489 in 2025, and arrivals from Southern Europe increasing from 190,331 to 223,871 over the same period. Participation in FITUR 2026 strengthens the Maldives’ brand presence in Europe, maintains visibility in key source markets, and supports expanded engagement with leading travel agents and industry partners in the region.
