President Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Education on International Day of Education

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and quality education for all, describing education as a fundamental human right and a key driver of national development.
In a message issued to mark the International Day of Education, the President said that despite challenges such as climate vulnerability and changing labour market demands, the government remains focused on delivering holistic education reforms that reach learners across the country.
He highlighted progress made over the past two years, noting that more than 6,000 students have graduated under the first-degree scheme, over MVR 1 billion has been disbursed through student loan facilities, and steps have been taken to address teacher shortages through the National Teacher Training Programme.

Muizzu emphasised the Administration’s focus on inclusive education, including the introduction of a dedicated national training programme for Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers. He also outlined plans to strengthen vocational education and training by prioritising employability and expanding access to nationally recognised qualifications.
The President further noted ongoing efforts to enhance education quality through curriculum reform, digital transformation, and the development of international partnerships.
Concluding his message, he called on all stakeholders to work together to build an education system that empowers every Maldivian. He said the government envisions an education sector that nurtures young people not only as learners, but also as contributors to shaping education for future generations.
The International Day of Education is observed annually on 24 January to recognise the role of education in promoting peace and development.
