The government had announced plans last year in April to upgrade Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital in Raa Atoll into a tertiary-level facility, but no updates on the progress had been shared publicly so far. The development, valued at MVR 161.24 million, is planned to see the addition of a 95,645-square-foot facility with a capacity of 102 beds and a timeline of 540 days.

Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, established 40 years ago, continues to expand its repertoire of advanced healthcare services. The hospital currently offers mammography, CT (Computed Tomography) scans, dental care, and ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) services.
