Consumers warned to beware Raaya Male’ jewellery scam

The Maldives Police Service has issued a public alert warning consumers to remain vigilant against a scam involving a fake jewellery business operating under the name Raaya Male’.

The Police Anti-Scam Centre said the fraudulent page has been advertising on social media, claiming to sell jewellery at heavily discounted prices. The scam reportedly attracts customers through a so-called closure sale offering discounts of up to 80 percent before redirecting buyers to a fake banking login page during the payment process.

According to police, the fake website is designed to steal cash card and internet banking credentials, including usernames, passwords and one-time passcodes. The stolen information is then used to gain access to victims’ bank accounts and withdraw funds.

Authorities have urged the public not to click on suspicious links or enter banking details on unfamiliar or unverified websites. Individuals who may have shared their information on the fraudulent site have been advised to immediately contact their bank and block their card and account.

Police also noted that scammers are increasingly using more sophisticated methods to exploit public trust. The warning follows a recent alert issued over a separate scam that falsely claimed to be raising funds for a cancer patient.
