President Muizzu laid the foundation stone for Shaheed Ali School on 25 December 2023. The project was completed within two years and handed over to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC). Classes have now resumed at the school.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Muizzu said more than 77 percent of students enrolled at Shaheed Ali School are from the atolls, noting that the school represents the country as a whole despite its location in Hulhumalé.

“We will be working towards ensuring the standard of education provided in Malé and the atolls are at the same level, at the highest level,” he said.

The President added that more than 1,500 students had moved to Malé to enrol at the school and that, including their families, around 5,000 people had relocated. He said this highlighted the need to improve access to quality education in the atolls.

Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu said the government continues to prioritise school maintenance and repairs. He noted that MVR 65 million has been allocated for school maintenance this year, following allocations of MVR 40 million in 2025 and MVR 30 million in 2024. He also said the design and concept for three additional schools in Hulhumalé Phase II have been finalised.

Shaheed Ali School is among the most modern educational facilities in Hulhumalé Phase II. According to the Ministry of Education, the school can accommodate up to over 1,900 students and will offer classes from grades 1 to 10. It has 54 classrooms, each designed for 32 students.

The campus includes a 400-seat auditorium, a multipurpose hall, a library, a computer lab, three science laboratories, indoor sports facilities, a turf field, and outdoor sports areas.

Shaheed Ali School is the second permanent school established in Hulhumalé Phase II. Salahuddin School was the first to open in the area.
