The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has reopened the period for submitting complaints regarding the voters list, which has been updated following previous submissions, ahead of the Local Council elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections scheduled for 4 April 2026.

The ECM stated that the amended voters list has been published on its website and can also be accessed through the government gazette or local island councils. Individuals may additionally verify their details via SMS by sending their ID number to 1414. Complaints will be accepted until 3:00 pm on 8 February. The Commission has advised that all submissions include the necessary documentation to support the complaints.

During the initial complaint period, the ECM received a total of 779 complaints. The majority concerned the removal of deceased individuals from the voters registry and corrections to island or address information.

According to the ECM’s published report of contested seats, 626 seats are being contested for island councils and 52 for city councils. Of the islands, 133 will elect a council president and three councilors, including a seat reserved for female representation, while 46 islands will elect a council president and five councilors, including the designated female seat. Elections for Women’s Development Committee members will be held in all islands where councilor elections are taking place.

The city council elections will vary across locations. Kulhudhuffushi and Thinadhoo cities will each elect seven councilors, including the mayor. Fuvahmulah city will elect nine councilors, Addu city 11 councilors, and Male’ city 18 councilors.
