The Ministry of Health has announced the recruitment of 60 laboratory technicians as part of the government’s plan to establish diagnostic facilities on every inhabited island within the year.

The ministry stated that the technicians will be deployed to hospitals and health centres operating under its mandate. The total monthly salary package is MVR 12,910, comprising a basic salary of MVR 5,610, a service allowance of MVR 2,500, an accommodation allowance of MVR 3,000 and a food allowance of MVR 1,800.

Applicants are required to hold a diploma in laboratory technology and have at least two years of relevant work experience. A permanent basic registration certificate is also mandatory, and priority will be given to candidates under the age of 45.

Applications can be submitted either directly to the ministry or through registered recruitment agencies, with each agency permitted to submit a maximum of five applications. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday.

The recruitment initiative follows an announcement by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim last Friday that strengthening diagnostic services in the atolls is among the government’s key priorities. He noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has placed particular emphasis on ensuring access to laboratory services even on islands with small populations.

The minister also highlighted that when the current administration assumed office, 76 islands did not have laboratory services, and said efforts are underway to ensure that every inhabited island has a functioning laboratory within the year.
