A forum was held yesterday at the Customs Building in the Maldives to address challenges in the import and export of goods.
The meeting brought together customs officials, port authorities, clearing agents, brokers, and over 60 other entities, including government agencies responsible for issuing permits for imported and exported goods.
Participants discussed a broad range of issues affecting cargo clearance, including permits for imported chemicals, the clearance of food and medicines, the facilitation of imports of animal species, and permissions for construction materials. The forum focused on simplifying rules and procedures to resolve these difficulties and explored both immediate measures and medium- to long-term solutions.
Decisions made during the forum will be shared with relevant authorities, and participants agreed that such collaborative meetings should continue in the future. Officials noted that as the volume of goods imported into the country continues to rise, customs services are being improved and the clearance process expedited. Cooperation from all collaborating agencies and stakeholders was acknowledged as essential in these efforts.
