A man has been arrested for allegedly stopping a Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) vehicle and assaulting one of its employees.

Police identified the suspect as Ahmed Shamoon, 28, from L. Gan, who was previously arrested in connection with a two‑kilogram drug case. Shamoon has been remanded in custody for five days and is facing charges of assault.

Shamoon was previously arrested in connection with a major drug case in which the Drug Enforcement Department searched four houses, a motorcycle, and a boat in the North Harbour area, seizing more than two kilograms of drugs. He was among several individuals arrested in that operation.

The Prosecutor General’s Office had charged Shamoon with the use, possession, and concealment of property and money obtained through crime. However, the Criminal Court ruled that the charges were not proven, in a verdict delivered by Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad, who was later dismissed over behavioural misconduct.

The prosecution subsequently appealed the ruling to the High Court, where the case remains undecided. Several other individuals had also been charged alongside Shamoon in the same drug case.
