The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly implement the Tsunami Ready Programme.

The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary Moomina Waheed on behalf of the Ministry and NDMA Chief Executive Hisaan Hassan for the authority.

The MoU is intended to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions in implementing the UNESCO–IOC Tsunami Ready Programme. It follows discussions held on 10 December last year aimed at enhancing national tsunami preparedness.

Under the agreement, the Ministry will support village-level workshops and assist in developing disaster management plans for cities and provinces. It will also facilitate the formation and training of community-based emergency response teams.

Both institutions will appoint focal points to ensure effective coordination under the MoU. The Ministry stated that this collaboration is expected to accelerate disaster prevention efforts and further strengthen institutional cooperation.
