The Kaafu Huraa Council has announced the lease of 25 land plots on the island for development as guesthouses. The plots will be issued from a newly reclaimed area in Huraa.

Of the 25 land plots, eight have been reserved exclusively for Huraa residents, while the remaining 17 are open to the general public.

The bid application form for the eight plots allocated to residents has been priced at MVR 10,000 and will be available for purchase until 12:30pm on Wednesday next week. An information session regarding these plots is scheduled for 10:00am on Thursday next week at the Huraa Council office.

Huraa has a thriving local tourism sector, and its proximity to the capital, Malé, makes it a popular getaway for city residents. The latest census reports that the island has a population of 1,654, including expatriates.
