Twenty-three couples who received treatment at the National Fertility Centre have successfully conceived through in vitro fertilisation, according to statistics released by the facility.
The figures were shared during a ceremony held yesterday to mark the centre’s one-year anniversary. The National Fertility Center has been in operation since November 2024 at Dharumavantha Hospital.
Since its opening, a total of 578 couples have consulted the centre for fertility-related services. Of these, 96 couples were selected to undergo in vitro fertilisation treatment. Twenty-three of the couples conceived successfully, while two have since given birth.
The first child conceived through in vitro fertilisation at the National Fertility Center was born on 7 January.
The establishment of the centre followed the expansion of the Aasandha health insurance scheme to include fertility treatment services, such as in vitro fertilisation and intrauterine insemination. The expansion of coverage was an electoral pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during the 2023 presidential campaign.
