The Maldives Correctional Service has opened a new front office at the southwest corner of the Hulhumalé Prison compound to improve access to public services.

The office was inaugurated yesterday by Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihusaan during a ceremony attended by Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Sobah, and other senior officials.

According to the Maldives Correctional Service, the new front office is intended to make services more accessible and convenient for the public. The institution noted that, similar to the Maldives Correctional Service headquarters, the facility was constructed through the joint efforts of inmates and correctional officers involved in rehabilitation programmes.

Services provided at the front office include the issuance of criminal record clearances, handling public telephone inquiries, and receiving official correspondence such as emails and counter letters, which will be forwarded to the relevant sections or divisions. The office will also maintain records and provide information to visitors seeking assistance.

The front office will additionally accept clothing brought for inmates and detainees on Sundays and Tuesdays, in accordance with established regulations governing the receipt of such items.
