Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially launched the Maldives National Logistics service, marking a significant step in enhancing the country’s supply chain and transport infrastructure.
The service was inaugurated at the Marine Expo held at Hulhumalé Central Park by the Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer.
The initiative is designed to streamline the movement of goods across the Maldives by integrating loading, warehousing and delivery under a single, coordinated system. The service aims to improve efficiency, reduce logistical delays and lower overall costs for both businesses and consumers.
MPL has stated that the service includes a domestic transshipment facility, allowing containers arriving at Malé Port to be delivered directly to the atolls. A commercial warehouse is under development in Thilafushi, while new procedures have been introduced to enhance the transfer of cargo from Malé harbour to Velana International Airport.
To expand capacity, MPL is also constructing a new landing craft, which is expected to be completed and operational within eight months. The government has emphasised that the goal is to consolidate these services into a single national system, providing a comprehensive logistics solution for citizens and businesses nationwide.
Logistical services are being strengthened on an ongoing basis, with a particular focus on improving sea-to-air cargo operations through updated procedures and infrastructure. In December last year, the government transferred operations of its logistics network, previously known as the ‘Anchor’ project, to MPL to ensure long-term sustainability. The establishment of Maldives National Logistics as a standalone service forms part of this effort to expand MPL’s logistics operations.
