The government has set 11 February, Wednesday, as the final deadline for households in the Greater Malé Area to collect cases of canned tuna being distributed as Ramadan gifts.

According to the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, the distribution programme, which began on the night of 24 January, covers every Maldivian household and is being carried out through a joint effort between the responsible ministry and several state-owned enterprises.

In Malé, Villimalé and Hulhumalé, tuna cases are being issued nightly, except on Fridays, from 8:30pm to 11:00pm. Authorities said collection will end at 11:00pm on 11 February, after which uncollected cases will no longer be issued.

According to official figures, 43,923 cases of canned tuna have so far been distributed in the Malé area. There are 65,230 registered domestic electricity meters in the Greater Malé Area, with each domestic meter treated as a single household for the purpose of the distribution.

The government said distribution is also underway in several islands across the atolls, with local councils overseeing the process in their respective communities.

In the Malé area, residents can collect the tuna cases from 14 designated centres. To receive the gift, households must first obtain a token through the Roadha Hadhiyya portal. Authorities have urged residents to collect their tuna cases as soon as possible and not wait until the final day to avoid congestion and delays.
