The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has opened re-registration for voters wishing to cast their ballots at a location or island other than their currently registered address ahead of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections scheduled for 4 April.

According to the ECM, the re-registration window opened today and will close at 3:00pm on 16 February, next week Monday. The Commission said re-registration is mandatory for voters who intend to vote at a different location from where they were registered for the 2024 Parliamentary elections.

The Commission also noted that individuals who were previously registered to vote at resorts, industrial islands, prisons or overseas during the parliamentary elections have now been reverted to their permanent address on the current voter registry.

Voters have been urged by ECM to check their registration status and submit a re-registration application if they plan to vote on a different island. Applications must be submitted online through the Commission’s Re-registration Portal or via the My Portal

ECM said that Voters can verify their current registration details by sending an SMS to 1414 in the format: VR [space] National Identity Card number. For further information on the re-registration process, the public may contact the Elections Commission hotline on 1414.
