Police have destroyed a large quantity of seized liquor in Dhoonidhoo, including 777 bottles of liquor, 225 bottles of liquor and 10 other items.

The Maldives Police Service confirmed that the items were part of cases that had reached the analysis stage and had been confiscated by the Drug Enforcement, Tourist Police and Hulhumale’ Police. The destruction was conducted under the supervision of a committee formed in accordance with the Rules of Procedure for the Destruction of Liquor and Liquor‑related Seized Items.

Authorities noted that alcohol‑related offences remain common in the Malé area, particularly in Hulhumale’, with most suspects being foreign nationals. In a recent incident, a 25‑year‑old Bangladeshi man was arrested in Hulhumale’ for possessing 26 bottles of 500ml liquor.
