MATI Holds 36th AGM, Elects New Executive Board

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) held its 36th Annual General Meeting yesterday at Kurumba Maldives, with 112 members and key stakeholders from across the tourism sector in attendance.
Vice-Chairman Hussain Afeef opened the meeting with a welcome address, followed by the Secretary General’s statement delivered by Ahmed Nazeer. Members also paid tribute to the late Mohamed Umar Maniku, former Chairman of MATI, who was posthumously inducted as the association’s first Member of Honour in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Maldivian tourism industry.
During the meeting, members reviewed and approved the minutes of the 35th AGM, the 2025 Annual Report and the financial statements for the year. The assembly elected the Executive Board for the 2026–2029 term, approved the 2026 budget and confirmed the reappointment of Faris & Co LLP as auditors for 2026.

The newly elected Executive Board:
- Chairman Hussain Afeef of KASA Holdings Pvt Ltd
- Vice-Chairman Salah Shihab of Voyages Maldives Pvt Ltd
- Vice-Chairman Ahmed Nazeer of Crown Company Pvt Ltd
- Financial Controller Ahmed Hafeez of Lily Hotels Pvt Ltd
- Secretary General Asad Ali of Driftwood Maldives Pvt Ltd
- Deputy Secretary General Iyaz Waheed of Vihamanaafushi Holdings Pvt Ltd.
Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment delivered a presentation outlining the ministry’s regulatory agenda and work plan for 2026. MATI also presented a video overview of the tourism industry’s performance in 2025 and highlighted its advocacy initiatives and key activities over the past year.
Members took part in an open discussion session on pressing industry matters, while the association formally welcomed new members who joined since the previous AGM.
The meeting concluded with closing remarks from newly elected Secretary General Asad Ali, who stressed the need for collaboration, regulatory stability and a supportive policy environment to sustain the growth of the Maldivian tourism industry.
