Regular Raajje Transport Link ferry services are scheduled to commence in Faafu and Dhaalu atolls today, the Ministry of Transport has announced.
In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry stated that services during the first week will be provided free of charge to allow residents of both atolls to familiarise themselves with the RTL system. Paid services will begin on 25 February.
Passengers will be able to purchase tickets through RTL’s official website and mobile application. RTL services are already operating in Thaa Atoll, and with the addition of Faafu and Dhaalu, the network will expand to cover 14 atolls.
The government has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company to implement the RTL project, which is a national public transport initiative being rolled out in three phases across six zones.
According to the ministry, the project is intended to provide reliable and affordable sea transport while establishing a system that delivers economic and social benefits to communities throughout the country.
