State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has delivered generator sets to 12 islands across the Maldives in preparation for the annual peak season for electricity consumption.

STELCO stated that five of these islands have already installed and operationalised the generator sets. The islands are Rasdhoo in Alif Alif Atoll, Mahibadhoo and Dhigurah in Alif Dhaalu Atoll, and Thulusdhoo and Gulhi in Kaafu Atoll. Work is ongoing to commence generator services in the remaining islands.

The latest installation was completed in Gulhi, where an 800 kW generator set was commissioned. With the new equipment, the island’s total power generation capacity has increased to 1,904 kW.

In addition, a 1,200 kW generator set was commissioned for Villimale’, and operations began last month. STELCO stated that the expansion of generation capacity would help ensure a more reliable electricity supply for residents.

The company said that the measures to strengthen electricity generation infrastructure are aimed at maintaining stable and continuous power services to meet the expected rise in demand during the peak consumption period.
