Deadline Set to Remove Unauthorised Vehicles From Capital Streets
Malé towing exercise targets illegal and Zone A vehicles
The Maldives Police Service has announced that illegally parked vehicles, unregistered vehicles, and vehicles registered outside Zone A will be towed from Malé starting Monday, 23 February.
Residents and vehicle owners have been urged to remove improperly parked vehicles from streets and restricted areas by 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, 22 February. Police stated that vehicles remaining in violation after the deadline will be immediately towed to a designated holding facility determined by the authorities. Vehicle owners will be responsible for covering the full cost of retrieving their vehicles.
The directive is intended to help reduce traffic congestion in the capital and improve access for emergency and essential services in the densely populated city.
The Maldives Police Service further stated that it will not be responsible for any damage that may occur during towing operations or while vehicles are stored at the designated facility.
