Bangladeshi Man Remanded Over Alleged Hostage and Assault Case

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested in Malé on suspicion of holding a fellow expatriate hostage and assaulting him.
Iqbal Mia, 35, was presented before the Criminal Court on Friday for a remand hearing. According to the remand warrant, he is accused of detaining another expatriate against his will and physically assaulting him.
The court determined that the available evidence was sufficient to proceed with the investigation and ordered that he be held in police custody for 30 days.
Court documents further indicate that Iqbal is an undocumented worker.
