Road Development Corporation (RDC) announced that the Republic Square in Malé has been temporarily reopened after major renovations.
In a post on X, RDC said the project included planting numerous trees and renovating the benches. The area was initially closed for renovation in early 2025. It was briefly reopened on 26 July 2025 for the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations, but was closed again due to unfinished work.
Meanwhile, the government is continuing its efforts to modernise Boduthakurufaanu Magu on the north side of Malé. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has paved the road from the official jetty to North Harbour and opened it to the public. The third phase of the project is scheduled to begin next month.
