Laboratory Services Established in 11 More Islands

The Ministry of Health has announced the establishment of laboratory services in 11 additional islands across the atolls as part of an ongoing nationwide initiative.

The programme was launched in February 2024 with the aim of setting up laboratory facilities in 76 islands that previously lacked such services. According to the Ministry, laboratory services had been established in 11 islands by Wednesday under the initiative.

The Ministry has stated that it aims to complete the establishment of laboratories in all 76 targeted islands by the end of this year.

Improving access to basic laboratory facilities in home islands remains a key pledge of the incumbent government, with the initiative intended to enhance primary healthcare services and reduce the need for travel to larger population centres.
