Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives Yahya Hassan Al‑Qahtani addressed the gathering and highlighted the historic significance of Founding Day, which marks the establishment of the first Saudi state by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727. He noted that the principles laid nearly three centuries ago, including unity, security, justice and development, continue to guide the Kingdom.

The Ambassador stated that Saudi Arabia’s identity is rooted in its Arab and Islamic heritage and that, as the home of the Two Holy Mosques, the Kingdom carries a responsibility to serve the Islamic world while promoting peace, tolerance and coexistence. He also referred to Saudi Arabia’s growing international role, noting that the country is among the world’s leading economies and a member of the G20, contributing to global energy security and sustainable development.

Reference was made to the Kingdom’s reform agenda under King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Mohammed bin Salman through Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on economic diversification, innovation, citizen empowerment and stronger international partnerships.

The Ambassador further emphasised the longstanding and expanding ties between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives and conveyed the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening cooperation across various sectors.

Founding Day is observed annually to honour the origins of the Saudi state and the leadership that shaped its modern development.
