The Maldives Police Service has issued a public summons seeking to question a man in connection with allegations of insulting Islam and making statements deemed to disrupt religious unity on social media.

Police stated that the investigation concerns allegations that an individual, identified as Ahmed Amir (51), of H. Filikurige, Malé, posted content online calling for the abolition of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and made claims insulting to Islam and the Prophet (pbuh). Authorities said attempts to serve a formal summons were unsuccessful because the individual’s current whereabouts are unknown.

He has been instructed to attend the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building on 10 March at 4:00 pm for investigation.

The case follows a request from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, which formally wrote to relevant authorities on 15 February asking for an investigation and legal action over the matter, according to the Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

The video pertinent in case shared on TikTok allegedly shows an individual claiming to receive divine revelations and asserting that he is the Prophet Yusuf. The footage also contains statements insulting to Islam and the Prophet.

Authorities described the allegations as serious offences and said they expect swift action under applicable laws. The investigation remains ongoing.
