Raajje Transport Link has commenced ticketing services for Faafu and Dhaalu Atolls following a one-week trial period to allow local communities to familiarise themselves with operations.
The services were inaugurated on 17 February, expanding the RTL network to 14 atolls across the Maldives. The ferries operating in Faafu and Dhaalu Atolls were constructed with assistance from the Government of India.
Faafu Atoll comprises five islands with an estimated population of approximately 5,000 residents, while Dhaalu Atoll includes seven islands with a population of around 7,000. Tickets for RTL ferries are available through the RTL mobile application and official website, with fares determined based on distance in line with company guidelines.
A total of four routes have been established within the two atolls. One route operates within Faafu Atoll, two routes serve Dhaalu Atoll, and one inter-atoll route connects Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll with Meedhoo in Dhaalu Atoll.
RTL services have not yet commenced in Meemu and Laamu Atolls in Zone Four, nor in Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu and Vaavu Atolls in Zone Three.
The government aims to introduce RTL services in these six atolls and extend the ferry network nationwide by the middle of this year.
