Veteran Actor and Film Director Ahmed Nimal Passes Away

Veteran actor and film director Ahmed Nimal passed away this morning while receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) following a stroke.
Media reports state that Nimal had been undergoing treatment since suffering a stroke on 31 December 2025. His condition remained critical, and he was placed on a ventilator while in a coma.
Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held after the Asr prayer at Aasaharaa Mosque today.
Nimal made his debut in Maldivian cinema in 1984 with the film Nufoozu. He has been active in Maldivian cinema since then, appearing in several roles last year. In addition to acting and directing, he is credited as an editor and a writer on some of his projects as well. Zalzalaa (2000), in which he acted and directed, remains among his most recognised works.
In 1991, he received the National Award in recognition of his contribution to the Maldivian film industry.
