Majority of Social Housing Apartment Keys Handed Over, Says FDC

The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has stated that, except for those in special circumstances, keys for apartments in its social housing towers have been handed over to recipients.

Out of 4,000 housing units developed under the scheme, 3,850 recipients have signed their agreements. Keys have been handed over to 3,647 individuals. The corporation noted that some recipients who signed agreements have not yet collected their keys due to special circumstances, including being overseas during the collection period.

The handover of keys for 112 apartments has been temporarily paused under the directive of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure for further inspection. Application documents for these units are being verified as part of the review process. With the majority of keys distributed, a significant number of families are already residing in the social housing units.

FDC stated that its current priority is the development of commercial areas within the housing towers. Each tower includes dedicated space for commercial use, with allocations planned for food and beverage outlets, health clinics and other essential services for residents. Interior works are ongoing in several of the commercial spaces.

The Amaan Dhoadhi and Amaan Udhares projects comprise 32 towers and include plans for retail outlets and a supermarket within the area. The towers were constructed in Hulhumalé Phase II and are divided into six zones to facilitate the provision of essential services. FDC has planned to establish at least one supermarket or hypermarket in each zone.

Produce markets are being developed within a 10-minute walking distance of residential areas. Dedicated spaces are also planned for cafés, restaurants and banking services. Pharmacies, health clinics and wellness centres are to be established within a similar 10-minute walking radius to serve residents.
