The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has issued a travel advisory urging local Umrah pilgrims and those currently in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to remain vigilant due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement, the Ministry emphasised the importance of heightened awareness when making travel arrangements and reassured pilgrims that their safety remains a top priority.

Official figures show that 1,624 Maldivians are scheduled to perform Umrah during Ramadan under the coordination of 20 licensed Umrah travel companies. In addition, 530 pilgrims have travelled under the state-owned Maldives Hajj Corporation. Given the volatile regional security situation, the Ministry has advised all travellers to exercise caution and follow guidance issued by Saudi authorities.

The Ministry urged pilgrims to take precautionary measures, including regularly monitoring travel updates and maintaining close contact with their respective Umrah operators. Pilgrims were also advised to report emergencies or serious incidents through the designated hotlines +966506894477 and +966530838329.

The Ministry announced plans to establish a dedicated information hotline to provide real-time updates on travel advisories and security measures. Authorities are also monitoring the situation of Maldivian pilgrims already in Mecca to ensure their safety amid the ongoing regional unrest.
