The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has warned the public against individuals allegedly collecting money from people under false claims that they would receive housing plots through the government’s Binveriyaa scheme.
In a statement, the ministry said it had come to its attention that certain parties are demanding payments from individuals while promising allocation of land under the housing programme.
The ministry clarified that the announcement of recipients under the Binveriyaa scheme, or any changes to procedures related to the allocation of housing plots, will be made exclusively through the Government Gazette. It stressed that no individual can receive housing under government schemes unless officially published through the gazette by the ministry.

Officials urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from making any payments or financial transactions in connection with promises of housing under government schemes.
The ministry further requested that anyone who encounters individuals collecting money under the pretext of providing housing through the Binveriyaa or any other government housing programme report the matter to the Anti-Scam Centre of the Maldives Police Service by calling 125.
