The Thalassemia Society of Maldives has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a new office in Hulhumalé, aimed at strengthening support services and raising awareness for individuals affected by thalassemia.

The agreement was signed in partnership with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which will facilitate the provision of dedicated office space in Hulhumalé. According to a post shared on X, the initiative is intended to bring essential services and assistance closer to patients and their families.

Describing the effort as more than the allocation of physical space, the partners said the office represents a commitment to enhanced support systems, improved advocacy and the promotion of a more inclusive community for those living with thalassemia.

On behalf of HDC, the agreement was signed by the company’s managing director Ali Zuhair. On behalf of thalassemia society, the agreement was signed by its chairperson, Eman Mohamed.

The development comes amid continued attention on blood supply levels in the country. Last month, the Ley App said blood donations had declined but were expected to return to normal levels by mid-month. The update followed an appeal by the Maldives Blood Services (MBS), which urged the public to donate blood after stocks at the national blood bank fell to critical levels.
