The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced a special land separation initiative for beneficiaries who jointly received plots under the previous administration’s Binveriyaa scheme.

The Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, revealed at a press conference that applications for the initiative will open on 24 March. The programme will allow joint-title holders to apply for individual land allocations, subject to specific criteria.

Under the new arrangement, all parties who originally received land together must collectively agree to relinquish their shared plot in order to qualify. Successful applicants will be allocated a 1,250 square foot plot in Rasmale’.

The initiative is divided into two categories. Category One applies to individuals who submitted a joint application under the Binveriyaa scheme and now wish to separate. This category requires a unified application submitted by all original recipients.

Category Two targets individuals who were previously ineligible for the Binveriyaa scheme due to owning a government social housing flat. Applicants under this category must commit to surrendering their flat upon receiving new land.

The regulations governing the initiative, including a points-based evaluation system, have been officially gazetted. Applications will remain open until 30 April and must be submitted through the government’s Boahiyaavahikan online portal.

The minister stated that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure equitable and individualised housing opportunities for citizens.
