Former Environment Minister Aminath Shauna has said that she was summoned by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday morning in connection with a recommendation made by the Economic Council.

In a post shared on X, Shauna said the summons related to a matter involving a recommendation by the Economic Council  during her tenure as Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology in the previous presidency.

“Every engagement I have undertaken as Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology was lawful and fully compliant with the Constitution and the laws of the Maldives,” Shauna said.

Media reports have indicated that the questioning is linked to an investigation by the ACC into a compensation settlement that was made following a recommendation by the Economic Council.

The ACC has not publicly disclosed the specific case under investigation. However, as the matter relates to a compensation settlement, media reports say members of the settlement committee and the Economic Council, as well as cabinet ministers who were involved in the decision-making process, could be summoned by the commission for questioning as part of the inquiry.
