Maldivian Youth Detained in Thailand Dies in Prison

A Maldivian youth who had been detained in Thailand in connection with a drug-related case has died while in custody.

The Maldives Police Service identified the deceased on Friday as 22-year-old Ibrahim Nabeeh Naseem of Fanaaru, Thaa Guraidhoo. According to the police, Nabeeh was arrested by Thai authorities on 22 February at Don Mueang International Airport.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the drug-related allegations against him, and the cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.

A police official stated that the Maldives Police Service is working with relevant agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
