The Government of Maldives has strongly condemned the recent attack targeting the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The government said that attacks on diplomatic premises constitute a serious violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and undermine the established norms of diplomatic engagement.

It reiterated the importance of protecting diplomatic missions and expressed full solidarity with the Government and people of the UAE.

As reported by Reuters, Iraq’s Kurdish counter-terrorism service said late Monday that three drones were intercepted over Erbil, with debris from one drone falling near the UAE consulate. No casualties were reported, according to the report.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Maldives strongly condemns attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, as well as by Iran against several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
