Maldivian, the national airline, has resumed direct flights between Malé and Dhaka, Bangladesh, today.
The airline had announced in January that it would restore the direct connection to Bangladesh in response to strong demand from both local travellers and the expatriate community in the Maldives.
Maldivian previously operated regular flights to Dhaka, but the service was suspended in August 2024 due to political unrest in Bangladesh. Before the suspension, the airline had been operating weekly flights on the route.
The resumed service will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. According to the airline, the schedule includes early morning arrivals in Dhaka to allow passengers to continue onward travel more conveniently.
Maldivian had previously said the resumption of the route also aligns with the travel period towards the end of Ramadan, supporting Eid al-Fitr travel plans for residents in the Maldives as well as expatriates returning to Bangladesh. The flights will also provide travel options for Bangladeshi tourists visiting the Maldives.
Beyond the seasonal peak, the airline stated that the service will provide year-round connectivity between the two capitals. Return fares start from USD 399 and include a 30kg checked baggage allowance and meal service. Ticket sales opened on Thursday.
In addition to Bangladesh, Maldivian currently operates international flights to India and China, serving five destinations across the two countries. The airline also operates seasonal international flights during peak holiday periods.
Tickets are available through the Maldivian website, the Maldivian mobile application, by emailing cc@iasl.aero, or via the Maldivian call centre on 1671.
