Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has asserted that the Maldives faces no military threat despite the ongoing war in the Middle East.

The conflict intensified following attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran on 28 February, prompting Iran to carry out retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and U.S. military bases across the region.

Reports had circulated that Iran launched missile strikes on the U.S.-UK military base at Diego Garcia in the Chagos Archipelago, raising concern about potential risks to nearby countries, including the Maldives.

At a press conference held by a special ministerial committee established in response to the war, Minister Ghassan confirmed that the Maldives is not under any military threat. He stated that the government has maintained a policy of not allowing Maldivian airspace or territory to be used by any country for the purposes of the conflict.
