Three government-owned companies have been awarded contracts to develop and expand health facilities across five islands, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and services.

The contracts have been awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), Fenaka Corporation Limited, and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The projects involve the construction of new buildings as well as extensions to existing health centres.

RDC has been contracted to carry out the expansion of the health centre in Hoadedhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The project includes the development of a nurse station, a four-bed ward, a private room, a procedure room, a laboratory, and a public health unit. Additional facilities such as a meeting hall, store room, and laundry will also be established.

Fenaka Corporation Limited has been awarded two projects in Maakurathu, Raa Atoll, and Vaadhoo. The Maakurathu project will include the development of basic clinical infrastructure such as a four-bed ward, nurse station, private room, laboratory, and procedure room.

The project is valued at USD 330,740 and is expected to be completed within 300 days. In Vaadhoo, similar infrastructure will be developed along with additional facilities including a store room, laundry, and garage. This project has been awarded at USD 369,650 and is to be completed within 365 days.

MTCC has also secured two projects, covering Kandoodhoo and Himmafushi health centres. In Kandoodhoo, the company has been tasked with completing the remaining works of a new health centre building, with the project valued at USD 1.41 million and a completion period of 390 days.

The Himmafushi project involves the development of expanded facilities including multiple wards, private rooms, an X-ray room, general and medical storerooms, and a laundry, in addition to standard clinical infrastructure. This project is valued at USD 726,330 and is scheduled for completion within 360 days.

The projects are expected to enhance access to healthcare services and improve medical facilities across the selected islands.
