The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has opened applications today for housing under the separate category “Category for Persons with Disabilities” within the Family Housing Programme, following amendments to eligibility criteria.

Applications opened at 11:00 today, and will remain open until 23:59 on Thursday, 30 April 2026. The government had initially announced that applications would open on 24 March, but the launch was later delayed to today.

The category has been introduced under Regulation for Issuing Flats to Residents of Malé, published on 28 December 2025, and its first amendment was issued on 11 March 2026. The amendment enables separate applications for persons with disabilities, granting them priority in housing allocation and outlining eligibility criteria, application procedures, a points system, and allocation methods.

Under the revised criteria, individuals with disabilities may apply even if they do not currently reside in Malé, provided they are unable to access necessary medical treatment on their home island or face financial constraints that prevent relocation to the capital. Residents of Malé who have received medical treatment within the past year are also eligible to apply under this category.

Applications must be submitted through the Ministry’s housing portal. Details of required documentation are provided in the announcement.

For further information, the ministry urges applicants to contact the ministry’s hotline numbers or email the ministry directly.
