Dhiggaru invites bids for island slogan monument

Dhiggaru Council has opened a bidding process for the construction of a monument representing the island’s slogan, “The Rihaakuru Island”.

According to the announcement, interested contractors are required to register before 12pm on 9 April, while bid submissions must be completed by 11am on 14 April. Provisions have been made for submissions through representatives, provided a copy of the bidder’s identification card is presented.

The council confirmed that the project forms part of its work plan for the year, with the monument design already finalised ahead of the bidding process.

The structure is intended to highlight Dhiggaru’s identity as an island known for producing rihaakuru, a traditional Maldivian fish paste prepared through a slow-cooking process. Visuals released alongside the announcement indicate that the monument will feature a rihaakuru pot as its central element.

The initiative reflects a broader trend across the Maldives, where islands have installed monuments at key locations such as jetties to showcase local heritage and cultural identity.
