Authorities Announce Bus Disruptions, Temporary Heavy Vehicle Operation Suspension for Elections Period
Bus services in Malé will face temporary disruptions, while heavy vehicle operations will be suspended, as authorities implement traffic measures ahead of election-related activities.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced that several roads in Malé will be closed on Friday, 3 April, from 15:30 to 18:30, leading to adjustments and suspensions across multiple RTL bus routes. Routes R1, R3, R7, and R15 will be fully suspended during this period.
Routes R2 and R8 will not operate to Senahiya, Raalhugandu, Artificial Beach, and Carnival, and will instead run directly from the Greater Malé Bus Terminal. Meanwhile, buses on routes R10 (Hulhumalé Phase 2) and R11 (Hulhumalé Phase 1) travelling դեպի Malé will only stop at the Bridge Viewing Platform area.
MTCC apologised for the inconvenience caused and advised commuters to contact its hotline for further information.

In a separate announcement, Maldives Police Service said heavy vehicle operations will be restricted across the Greater Malé Area on Saturday, 4 April, in connection with election activities.
According to the directive issued by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, vehicles under categories C0, C2, D, E, and V will be prohibited from operating between 06:00 and 23:00. Authorities said the measure is intended to ensure public safety and reduce traffic congestion.
