Two eco-friendly electric vehicle Lumin model taxis from the newly launched Malé Taxi service have been transported to Villimalé.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company stated that the move represents a step towards strengthening transport systems and improving public service accessibility.
The Malé Taxi service was officially inaugurated by President Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at Central Park Hulhumalé on 2 April. The initiative aims to address ongoing transport challenges across the Greater Malé area.
The service will comprise a total of 150 taxis, designed to provide safe, clean and convenient transport within the region.
Services are being offered free of charge from 3 to 9 April to gather public feedback and further refine operations. During this period, bookings can be made through the hotline number 1655.
MTCC has also stated that a mobile application is currently under development to enhance user convenience.
Under the service model, taxis cannot be hailed from the street, with all rides required to be booked in advance. The system includes tracking and monitoring features aimed at improving passenger safety.
