The Atmosphere Foundation has opened applications for a newly launched, fully funded professional dive training programme that will sponsor 10 Maldivians annually, in a bid to expand local participation in the country’s tourism industry.

According to the Foundation, the programme is launched in collaboration with Moodhu Bulhaa Dive Centre, the initiative aims to support young Maldivians in building careers in diving by providing comprehensive training and internationally recognised certifications.

Under the programme, selected candidates will receive full sponsorship covering professional dive training, certification fees, accommodation, meals and insurance. Applicants must be aged 18 and above, said the Foundation.

Applications for the first intake are now open, with a deadline of April 15, next week Wednesday. Interested applicants can obtain further information by contacting the organisers via email or phone.

Organisers said the programme is designed to strengthen the local workforce in tourism — the Maldives’ main economic sector — by equipping participants with the skills needed to enter and progress within the industry. Successful candidates will also be required to work in the Maldives for a specified period after completing their training.

Vice President of Atmosphere Foundation, Abdul Azeez Abdul Hakeem, said the initiative reflects a broader commitment to creating practical opportunities for Maldivians.

“This programme is about opening a pathway for young Maldivians who are passionate about the ocean and want to build a profession in diving,” he said. “By investing in training and development, we are helping create more opportunities for Maldivians to take up skilled roles in an industry that is central to the country’s economy.”
